Matter of Reaction Movement Project

Matter of Reaction Movement Project was a Chicago-based modern dance company that explored the physical and emotional limits of movement. Founded by Kathleen Hickey, Renee Murray and Kristin Pavelka, the company managed to infuse their varied compositional talents while creating work within a collaborative and improvisational environment.

Make it Matter

Matter of Reaction Movement Project created experimental art in response to our current state of being through site specific performances, interactive concerts and multidisciplinary events. By employing a collaborative, investigatory and improvisational approach, Matter of Reaction Movement Project created and developed works with a focus on human nature.

Make them React.

Matter of Reaction Movement Project was founded in 2006 by Renee Murray, Kathleen Hickey, and Kristin Palvalka. MRMP worked within a cooperative and imaginative environment while utilizing feedback from artists and non-artists alike to create and develop dance with physicality and a focus on individual sentiment. They consistently collaborated with artists from other disciplines to realize their visions. The choreographers and dancers of MRMP continually examined the inherent connection between life and art.

Make the Movement.

Matter of Reaction Movement Project collaborated with visual artist Laurie Caird Bramlage, lighting designer Chris Holland, and sound designer Mark Jamerson.

The company also collaborated with dancers Kate McIlvain, KJ Dahlaw, Anna Goldman among others.

Matter of Reaction Movement Project was featured in Time Out Chicago, The Chicago Reader, and was granted a Chicago Park District Night Out in the Parks for Renee Murray’s Dance Libs.
